About

Companions For Life was formed to fill the most obvious and significant gaps in the animal welfare movement in our community – humane education and shelter outreach. Organized on January 1, 2006, and granted 501(c)3 status by the Internal Revenue Service on February 22, 2006, it is our belief that by providing humane education and shelter outreach we can elevate the role of companion animals in our society and bridge the gaps in animal welfare in our community and nationwide.

Humane education is essential to building a society that places significant value on the role of companion animals. It is a vital component of character education and violence-prevention and encourages a culture of respect and compassion. Violent acts toward animals have long been recognized as indicators of a dangerous trend toward violence to humans, and humane education can break the cycle of abuse. Our goal is to provide the public with the necessary education to be respectful and responsibility toward all animals and to build in them the confidence to teach others the importance of compassion. Through partnerships with school districts, parks and recreation departments, pet-related businesses, and other community service organizations, we’ll educate both children and adults about a variety of humane issues such as animal overpopulation, animal cruelty, proper pet care, animal safety, and more.

So who are the educators when it comes to humane education? Shelter workers, rescue group volunteers, animal control officers, veterinarians, kennel managers, and animal welfare professionals across the country. Shelter outreach will provide those folks – the folks on the front line in the humane movement – with the tools they need to do their jobs, to meet their goals, to improve their standing in their community, and to earn the respect and admiration they deserve. Our shelter outreach programs will provide unlimited access to the resources they need 24/7 through our Rescue Resources website. We’ll also partner with local businesses to bring experts in current events and shelter-related subjects to our area to speak directly to the staff and volunteers of area welfare agencies. For more information, email us at cflinfo@att.net.

“People do not absorb moral lessons from those who trample on their feelings. Rather, they forever associate the unpleasantness of the spokesperson with the cause itself.”
